President Seconded to Vietnam

We are excited to announce that our President Tanya Carmont has been selected to work in Vietnam for a year.

On holiday to Vietnam in 2006, Tanya reaiised the urgent need for swim teachers, training and information. She came back to Australia and formed Water Skills for Life – an organisation dedicated to teach a skill for life, to save a life. Tanya believes that anyone living near water, be it coastal or inland waterways, deserves to be taught how to swim.

Tanya will be assisting the Swim Vietnam organisation in preparing training courses for trainee swim instructors, conducting swim lessons, advising on best practice for swim centers as well as providing assistance with government organistions, running presentations and seminars to help spread the importance of learning to swim.

Tanya said “she was extremely honoured to be given the opportunity to help out the Vietnamese people, to reduce the amount of drownings in the Vietnamese community and to help them learn how to teach swimming, so that they can continue to pass on the skills to future generations.”

Tanya will be located in Hoi An and will be there for a year.

Tanya thanked all the volunteers for their time, effort and support to Water Skills for LIfe programs over the past year.

Tanya commented that “our Volunteers are the most important part of the organization, they ensure that our swim programs run smoothly - not only the swim teachers, but the administration officers that organise registrations, those volunteers that offer to sell chocolates and donate items to raffles, write and grant proposals and the accounting and marketing specialists, – all these volunteers are who allow us to provide a valuable and life saving skill.”

Tanya presented Water Skills for Life Volunteer Swim Teachers Michelle Quinn and Nichole McLachlan, with the 2015 Volunteer of the Year awards at the event.

Michelle and Nichole have both been volunteers from the inception of Water Skills for Life, sitting on the Committee, fundraising as well as gaining their Swim Teaching licences to become volunteer swim instructors.
